Viking/Beaver FCSS services residents living in the Town of Viking, Village of Holden, and east half of Beaver County, including the hamlets of Bruce and Kinsella. These municipalities partner with the Province of Alberta to deliver locally driven preventive social initiatives that enhance the well-being of individuals, families and communities. Municipalities, through board members appointed on their behalf, determine where the need for programming and services lies. Programs and services can be targeted to individuals of any age, to families, or to entire communities. We also provide information and referral services and support to volunteer work in the community.

With the conclusion of the long-standing Home Services contract with AB Health Services on October 31, 2011, the Viking/Beaver FCSS program has set a Family Focus as the new direction for services over the next 3-5 years.
In November 2011, the VBFCSS Board carried out a strategic planning session to consider the needs of residents of the Town of Viking, Village of Holden and Beaver County. The decision to focus on the needs of familes means that VBFCSS will enhance programs that enrich and strengthen family life; and promote the social development of children, youth and their families. This does not mean that VBFCSS will be eliminating services that have been provided in the past for seniors, volunteer groups, and those seeking information and referral services.
Current VBFCSS programming that is focused towards families includes General Family Counselling, Stay and Play playgroup, Babysitter's training and the upcoming Easter Extravaganza. FCSS programming options are set out in the Family and Community Support Services Act and Regulation. Under the Act and Regulations, municipalities and the province of Alberta partner to develop locally driven preventative social initiatives that enhance the wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.
Over the next months we will be asking residents how they think Viking/Beaver FCSS can best support families in the Bruce, Holden, Kinsella and Viking communities (east Beaver). VBFCSS looks forward to consulting with residents on this topic.
